Rubin M. Erwin, known as Rube, was born in the year 1817 in the state of Tennesse. He is the son of ________ Erwin Rubin's parents have yet to be discovered/located, and the search is ongoing. Information found in the 1850 census of Woodville, Alabama (Jackson County) has identified Rubin and his family, as depicted here. From the book "The Story of Woodville" by John Kennamer, it states the brother of Wiley Erwin as Rubin Erwin having his place of residence beyond Stephens' Gap in Shiffman's Cove (assumed to be located near Woodville, Alabama).

Hannah Maples Erwin was born in the year 1820 in the state of Tennessee. Hanna is the daughter of William and Jane Maples.

In the 1850 census, Rubin and Hannah had four children (labeled with an *), which leads one to believe the older sons had grown and left home. The Kinnamer book lists only the sons and Maggie as follows;
(1) Tom Erwin (was killed, but is not known how, when, or where) Jackson County, Alabama records indicate a marriage license of Thomas J. Erwin to Louisa Nelson on 02Jan1878 and will be researched for authenticity.
(2) Rubin C. Erwin (Click to view)
(3) Joe Erwin
(4) Alonzo Erwin
(5) Forest Erwin
(6) Maggie Erwin
(*7) Wiley W. (Walk) Erwin - born (apx) 1838 and died of tuberculosis date unknown (wife - Minerva J. Butler married on 06Dec1865 and sons John and Clay Erwin)
