Wiley W. Erwin - (Click to view the Wiley Erwin family)

Rubin Erwin - (Click to view the Rubin Erwin family)

According to our research, the origin of the name Erwin is Scottish and the Coat of Arms contains Three clumps of green holly leaves on a silver shield. The Crest is A spray of holly leaves. The family motto is Candide et constanter (forthright and constant)

First found in Dumfriesshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Andrew Ervin, a boy of 16; landed in the Barbados in 1684. Over the next two hundred years the Irving name was to settle mainly in the state of Pennsylvania. William Irwin settled in Virginia in 1642.

Special thanks to John Brandon for providing his wife's, Fredie Fern Erwin Brandon's, records for our use and enjoyment. Her collection is a wealth of information about the Erwin family. Also, thanks to Max Shumake for his contibution of his wife's family, the Whitecotton's. You can contact Max at MAXSHUMAKE@aol.com
